Founder
Jens is the founder of NewImpact and the founder and former CEO of Coinstar, where he discovered the transformative potential of tri-sector solutions. His goal was to create a company that could simultaneously benefit the private, public, and non-profit sectors. By applying this tri-sector approach, Jens scaled Coinstar into a billion-dollar company that continues to thrive today.
Since its founding, Coinstar has processed trillions of coins and billions of dollars for millions of people, raised over $150 million for nonprofits, and saved the U.S. and UK government billions—all while delivering a valued consumer service and increasing spendable cash power.
After the success of Coinstar, Jens realized tri-sector business models could be applied to many types of organizations, with the potential to help transform society. He is dedicated to advancing Tri-Sector Innovation (TSI) as a framework for organizations to thrive while contributing to the greater good and founded NewImpact to carry this work forward.
Jens has presented Tri-Sector Innovation at keynotes, business schools, the United Nations, and other global forums. He is passionate about inspiring and promoting approaches that make social and economic progress are accessible to all.
A native of Seattle, Jens is an avid hiker, back country skier, and enthusiast of landscape architecture. He holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University and a B.A. from Yale University.
